About Our Client
The Sr. Strategic Sourcing Manager, R&D and Pre-Clinical will contribute to one of the most well-known biotechnology companies globally continuously seeing an increase in growth and progressive movement. This role is located in Boston, MA.

Job Description
- Act as the key Procurement point of contact for the R&D Team supporting assigned development, pre-clinical and clinical programs.
- Strategically manage R&D and Clinical Outsourcing spend by utilizing a proven sourcing process that engages cross enterprise stakeholders, aligns business objectives, and ensures supply continuity.
- Own development and implementation of comprehensive Category strategies for the R&D and Clinical outsourcing categories. Actively contribute and support the development and implementation of the relevant R&D category strategies within the organization, aligned with corporate strategy and financial goals. The Associate Director will also ensure alignment with other regional and global leaders in order to successfully deliver strategic objectives for GCD.
- Gain credibility and secure high levels of internal stakeholder's buy-in to category strategies and strategic initiatives.
- Act as subject matter expert on company's business requirements and the supply and demand markets for the R&D and Clinical outsourcing categories and their impact.
- Develop and direct annual cost savings programs that directly affect company financials and growth plans and generate progressive year over year cost reductions in lab supplies, capital equipment, vivarium, global CRO services/FTE outsourcing etc.
- Prepare requests for proposals for materials/services within assigned area.
- Perform proposal analysis, including price analyses, benchmarking, etc.
- Develop cost targets for negotiations, negotiation strategy, and develop, negotiate and implement supply agreements.
- Lead supplier selection process, identification of alternative sources, supply base rationalization programs and other relevant strategies to optimize the supply base.
- Own Supplier Relationship Management for category key suppliers: Development of KPI's, business reviews, improvement plans, new opportunities, innovation, awards, terminations, etc. including savings tracking and ongoing communication to management and stakeholders.
- Own initiation to completion resolution of supplier/service related issues in assigned categories.

Essential Functions
- Understand the Marketplace and Category of Clinical Outsourcing, development and pre-clinical activities within R&D.
- Lead and set Strategic Direction for cross-functional sourcing programs within assigned categories.
- Coordinate and conduct ongoing review meetings with key external partners and internal stakeholders.
- Support the R&D study team's supplier planning activities and act as lead in key vendor engagements.
- Draft RFIs/RFPs, conduct supplier evaluations, and drive the sourcing/contracting process. This includes on-going maintenance of the contracts (i.e. MSAs, change orders).
- Consult stakeholders on potential cost savings opportunities, collaboratively develop cost savings initiatives and provide on-going tracking/reporting.
- Lead other projects and complete additional duties as required/assigned.

The Successful Applicant
Knowledge & skills
- Bachelor's Degree required; MBA preferred desirable.
- At least 8 years of R&D procurement/strategic sourcing/category management experience, preferably in the clinical outsourcing space.
- Minimum 7 years of procurement support for Pharma/R&D operations, coupled with working knowledge of clinical development and clinical operations.
- Experience Preferred: Working in a GxP environment.

Functional Knowledge
- Experience with category management/strategic sourcing/e-sourcing processes including Ariba
- Familiarity with RFP process, perform spend analytics, and develop and present recommendations.
- Company/Industry Related Knowledge

Additional Knowledge and Skills
- Exhibit deep understanding of Category Management methodology and application.
- Extensive experience managing sourcing projects from start to finish
- Proven ability to execute and generate cost reduction improvement.
- Must be proficient in MS Office applications with advanced knowledge of MS Excel and PowerPoint.
- Moderate to complex level of financial analysis knowledge including business modeling and problem solving skills.
- Proficiency in negotiating pricing, contract terms and conditions including statements of work (SOWs).
- Proficiency in providing project management and cross functional team leadership for sourcing initiatives stakeholders.
- Results driven, innovative & creative. Aligns and energizes behind common objectives, action-oriented & willing to face challenging situations.
- Ability to formulate and articulate a strategy and business case for the category and build the tactical path.
- Critical thinking and decision making.
- The ability to interpret and ground decisions on solid analytics.
- Ability to negotiate the best terms with strategic suppliers that have far reaching impact on our business.
- Ability to influence internal and external stakeholders, including executive management, to achieve the initiative objectives. The ability to develop relationships and build both a strong direct and indirect sphere of influence.
- The successful candidate is expected to take ownership for the category's success and be able to lead and influence to deliver the desired results.
- Develops and maintains effective relationships through effective and timely communication.
- Takes initiative and action to respond, resolve and follow up regarding customer service issues with all customers in a timely manner.
