The Category Manager will partner across the BMS enterprise to develop and execute Global Category Sourcing Strategies for Competitive Monitoring and Data. The position will focus on bringing sourcing expertise, market intelligence and innovative solutions which deliver value, manage risk and accelerate the pace of our businesses.

The position requires strong business acumen and strategic alignment with key business partners within Business Insight & Analytics as well as Value Access Pricing and within Global Procurement organization. The Category Manager must display excellent communication skills to all internal stakeholders, senior leadership and suppliers.

This role reports to the Global Procurement Director of Business Insight (Analytics & Market Research Sourcing).

Global Category Responsibilities:

This role is responsible for:

  • Representing Procurement with Global Business Partner as the business-facing and strategic arm of the function driving optimal relationship management.
  • Developing and executing global sourcing strategies in an inclusive manner with a matrixed team of sourcing professionals from different geographic, cultural, personal, and professional backgrounds.
  • Planning activities including:
    • the development and maintenance of a 3-year strategic sourcing plan aligned with Business objectives, capitalizing on transformational opportunities and driving overall value, including revenue and savings projections
    • anticipating demand for the categories and projecting associated resource needs. 
  • Driving awareness of the strategies across Global Procurement and ensures that the teams executing sourcing projects do so in a manner consistent with our strategies. Bringing external perspectives and insights aligned to business objectives and maintains an awareness of market developments.
  • Structuring sourcing approach including supplier selection framework (sourcing, contract, performance indicator…), buying channels & enablement, leveraging our BMS Procure to Pay platform. Directly leading complex business transactions and resolving service issues with suppliers. 
  • Leading supplier relationship management program with Class 1 and select Class 2 suppliers, managing internal and external relationships with suppliers, cross-functional and/or multi-functional teams.

Position Qualifications

  • B.S. / B.A.; M.S/M.B.A preferred
  • Min 5 years of business experience with 2 to 3 years of procurement experience; category management experience preferred
  • Procurement process knowledge, category management, contract management, financial analysis, market analysis, supplier analysis, supplier management, technology utilization and strategic planning
  • Internal stakeholder management, data/information management, category management, process redesign and continuous improvement expertise, project management and performance measurement skills
  • Leadership experience in a matrix environment with ability to influence those outside your direct reporting line, inclusive of shared performance expectations and objectives.
  • Requires excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation, negotiation, problem solving, analytical and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated high degree of independence, requiring minimal supervision from senior management
  • Must also be highly motivated, results focused and act with a high sense of urgency. Must be able to create contingency plans and refine action steps to address shifting priorities or changing objectives.
