Job Description

The Production Scheduler will be responsible to manage daily and monthly inbound scheduling, optimization and planning for the Plant. The Production Scheduler requires an understanding of the transportation of hazardous materials, and production scheduling in order to optimize inventory levels allowing for maximum utilization of the plants splitter assets. The Production Scheduler will have the following day to day responsibilities:

  • Act as primary logistics contact within the commercial group for suppliers, internal stakeholders, as well as carriers and third party transloading site regarding all railcar and truck shipments to the plant.
  • Responsible for the tactical planning and execution of shipments via rail and truck in direct support plant production targets.
  • Provide direction to the Commercial Sourcing Manager for feedstock volume purchases as well as production direction to Supply Chain and Operations.
  • Provide analysis to direct production volume and cavern build downtime and duration.
  • Management of modal mix - determine the necessary balance of daily tank truck and rail car offloads in order to deliver an uninterrupted supply chain to support plant operations.
  • Direct rail car offloading requirements through analysis of inventory quality blending - selection of the proper mix of railcars in order to maximize utilization of the splitter asset.
  • Strategic scheduling of feedstock in order to minimize demurrage (railroad) and detention (vendor) exposure - includes scheduling double and weekend switches along with directing volume to lease track or transloading locations
  • Works closely with suppliers, railroads and third party truck carriers to ensure timely movement of all railcar and truck shipments.
  • Manage third-party transloading site.
  • Develop and maintain existing training documents associated with Scheduler activities.
  • Management of propylene feedstock inventory balances between the plant, RR and 3rd party storage locations to provide inventory optimization in conjunction with monthly feedstock volume requirements.
  • Conduct weekly volume reconciliations for truck and rail shipments with propylene suppliers and transportation vendors to ensure s all inbound inventory is recorded timely and accurately to reflect a correct inventory position.
  • Manage returns, diversions, repairs and manages exceptions involving rail and truckload inventory.
  • Conduct periodic audits to create carrier performance metrics (on time deliveries).
  • Oversee freight invoice reconciliation and payment processing as well as invoice generation for propane sales.
  • Create and improve inventory management and optimization tools. Serve as subject matter expert and lead regarding feedstock planning and inventory management optimization tools including inventory balances.
  • Assist with the training of junior schedulers and maintain documentation of 'close procedures' as well as guidelines for day to day activity.

The Successful Applicant

  • Bachelor Degree in supply chain, logistics or similar field required
  • 5+ years of related work experience with a minimum of 3 years in this type of scheduling role.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment where accuracy and follow up are essential to success.
  • Excellent interpersonal/communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Proactive approach to problem resolution.
  • Strong computer and analytical skills.
  • Attention to detail, self-motivated, and excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to foster collaborative relationships with vendors, carriers and co-workers within a cross-functional work environment at all grade levels.
  • Proactive approach to problem resolution - Identify problem areas with internal customers, carriers and vendors; work with manager and team to develop a resolution.
  • Experience and proficiency with SAP (SAP R3 and APO skills preferred) and Microsoft Office specifically Excel, Outlook and Power Point.
