Manager Transportation Management

Plans and implements all aspects of the traffic function. Provides cost effective, efficient and traceable movement of products both in-bound and out-bound. Develops, implements, and maintains policies and systems relating to monitoring costs and efficiencies in the department. Analyzes and recommends transportation and freight costs, as well as appropriate routing and carriers to be used. Ensures that lowest cost transportation is used to satisfy both customer and company needs. Contacts vendors, customers and carriers to coordinate any problems such as misdirected and/or damaged goods. May coordinate the handling of import and export requirements.

Manages through subordinate supervisors, managers, individual contributors or programs, the coordination of the activities of a department or org unit. Responsible for results, including costs, methods and staffing.  Interacts with others at various levels involving matters between functional areas, other departments or org units, or customers and the company. Receives assignments/objectives and determines how to use resources to meet schedules and goals, delegating assignments when necessary.  Involved in developing, modifying and executing policies and/or procedures that affect immediate operations and may also have company-wide effect.  Works on issues of diverse scope where analysis of situation or data requires evaluation of a variety of factors. 

Responsible for maintaining and continuously improving the quality system and achieving quality objectives through daily actions.

The Opportunity:

  • Ensures that shipments into or out of an organization are handled quickly, safely, and within budget constraints.
  • Leadership of transportation equipment and personnel in the organization.
  • Coordinates with outside companies that provide freight services globally, regionally, and locally.
  • Develops strategic initiatives to increase productivity, quality, and compliance within transportation management.
  • Responsible for staying current with various regulations including those related to hazardous shipments, employee safety, and freight classifications. Maintenance, repair, and replacement of shipping equipment or vehicles is also directed by the transportation manager.
  • Provide Partner Management leadership and resources to manage carrier and other service providers’ business performance through KPIs and regular business reviews.
  • Facilitates a continuous employee feedback process to enhance work processes and staff career development.
  • Ensures alignment and coordination with regulatory and safety compliance for all logistics operations.

Who you are:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 4 years related experience.
  • 2 years leadership experience.
  • Transportation Management experience as it relates to Forwarding, freight management and activities, carrier management, and receiving.
  • Familiarity with shipment options, legal issues, government regulations, and safety procedures is required, as is knowledge of geography, mathematics, and computer applications.
  • Thorough understanding of the principles and application of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and ISO 13485
  • Leadership/management and technical business analysis skills
  • Excellent organizational, decision making, human relations, and communication skills.
  • Results driven with ability to analyze and resolve problem in a timely manner.
  • Develop and lead high performing team
  • High level of knowledge of manufacturing, planning, inventory control, supply chain, materials management, traffic, and/or production processes preferred
