Job Description


  • Prepares, coordinates and conducts negotiations with suppliers. Negotiates agreements to achieve results that support sourcing strategies and business objectives.
  • Develops category specific sourcing strategies, understands relevant internal and external data and creates product/supply risk assessments.
  • Summarizes data analysis and purchasing expertise to develop strategic sourcing strategies. Key elements of this include effective strategy execution, monitoring results and renewing the strategy as market conditions evolve.
  • Manages supplier relationships by developing supplier programs and identifying continuous improvement initiatives. Tracks supplier performance and provides feedback. Looks for opportunities to build business relationships by matching supplier capabilities with business objectives.
  • Analyzes supplier financial position to assess viability as a supplier. Understands strengths and weaknesses of supplier and tracks KPIs and financial development of supplier.
  • Gathers and utilizes the appropriate information to develop contracts geared to lower total cost and improve supplier relationships. Manages contracts by monitoring contract compliance and updating contracts based on re-negotiation processes.

The Successful Applicant

  • BS degree (eg. Supply Chain Management) or equivalent business experience
  • 5+ year's proven experience in professional sourcing and purchasing experience
  • Previous category management/strategic sourcing experience with knowledge of business improvement techniques and their practical application.
  • Ability to understand chemistry category specific business, technology and government trends.
  • Ability to understand supply market and alternative/competition products within the industry.
  • Ability to identify, assess and execute savings initiatives beyond the traditional Raw Material price negotiations (e.g., formulation optimization, Value Analysis/Value Engineering) and to successfully work cross-functionally (primarily R&D) to get these non-traditional projects completed.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%
