Job Description

In this role, you have the opportunity to

  • Lead Procurement Engineering in the category. Meets all Category related Procurement Objectives/KPI’s.
  • Achieve product cost reduction through value engineering/DfX and supply chain optimization in the category. Act as interface to the relevant Commodity Leaders.
  • Ensure Category spend volume will be managed through the DfX concept. Act as Category MT member provide Leadership and vision to support the organizational Category objectives (short & long term).
  • Ensure that the Category Procurement Engineering related risks are controlled and mitigated, Execute requirements for supply strategy for in/outsourcing and components.
  • Execute Category requirements for procurement strategy. Align Product & Technology Roadmaps with suppliers (Aligned Supplier Product & Technology Roadmaps).
  • Ensure early supplier involvement in the Product Design Process within the Category. Link the new product introduction process with the supplier selection (total cost of ownership, handshake with Commodity Teams).
  • Secure S&OP linkage to component availability. Ensure development of cost roadmaps & linkage to margin management. Manage development of Target Cost model of products.

You are responsible for

  • Effective use of Procurement and cross-functional resources with maximal ROI
  • Full compliance to meet product and QMS requirements, in close collaboration with R&D, Q&R and Operations
  • Tracking progress and compliance
  • Remove bottlenecks and accelerate results where possible.
  • This Team’s responsibilities:
  • Be able to investigate and determine root cause of product cost issues. Possess a proficiency in all aspects of hardware design.
  • Be able to document all phases of the design including requirements, specifications, plans, reviews, test procedures, and test reports.
  • Be able to document the design for manufacturing (i.e. CAD/drawings, schematics, experiments, changes, test results, data, PCB layout, etc.)
  • Have experience working in an industry that is highly regulated and verification / validation testing is performed to recognized standards.
  • Have experience managing projects in a formal stage-gate project environment.
  • Be able to manage multi-functional and multi-disciplined international project teams.
  • Take a lead role in a project team for ensuring products meet the highest standards of quality and performance at best cost (total cost of ownership) Be able to guide, direct and review the activities of engineering personnel, external design service providers and suppliers.
  • Business and People Leadership Focus:
  • Workforce Planning: Plan for and secure the right people with the right skills to execute on current and future business strategies.
  • Understand and apply internal and external workforce trends and competency requirements to identify and address current / future talent gaps.
  • Performance Management: Set expectations, provide resources, deliver feedback and hold employees accountable to ensure efforts are aligned and achieve business outcomes. Reinforce actions that accomplish expectations and take steps to eliminate counterproductive work.
  • Talent Management: Take ownership for identifying and building talent, encouraging and supporting employee development, and communicating with employees about the positive impact on the business of talent development.
  • Employee Engagement: Stimulate and encourage ideas, give others a voice, recognize contributions, encourage and acknowledge feedback and act upon it, communicate the vision often, build and share networks, and implement EES best practices to ensure high levels of employee engagement.
  • Managerial Responsibility: Act with integrity as a company agent and steward of Philips resources to protect and ensure the business prospers. Administer company policies and programs fairly and consistently to ensure full compliance and high level of employee trust in the organization.

You are a part of

Global Professional procurement engineering team, within our Medical Consumables & Sensors business.

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience

  • Education: Minimum BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, MS EE preferred. Experience: 
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience, experience in R&D, Engineering or procurement engineering related functions required. Experience in Medical industry or automotive industry is preferred.
  • Experience with technical/engineering role in early career stage and then procurement is preferred.
  • 5+ years of people management in managerial role required(Sr. Mgr. to Director level)
  • Demonstrated progressive engineering in mechanical, analog and digital hardware design and embedded microprocessor experience in a design environment required.
  • Experience in product specification, design, design verification testing, and product production support including creation and review of technical documentation.
  • Experience analyzing mechanical designs or electronic circuitry at component and system levels required.
  • Experience creating, interpreting and modifying schematic drawings required.
  • Experience as a member of a project team, technical lead for the design and development of a major subsystem or task assignment required.
  • Experience interacting directly with suppliers, operation/manufacturing services, and engineering support services, preferred.
  • Experience in an ISO certified, regulated industry preferred.

  • Strong cross-functional cooperation capability, interdisciplinary thinking.

This role will initially be based in our Andover office. Philips will be relocating this office to a new site at Cambridge Crossing, a large development underway on the Cambridge-Somerville-Boston line. This is a very exciting time to be joining Philips, as this new location will be our largest North American R&D innovation center. The new office is set to open in early 2020.
