As Sourcing Specialist, you are part of Global Procurement in the Region America organization. You will be leading procurement sourcing activities in support of Lab Instruments, Consumables, Chemicals, and/or Research Services. The position may be located in Pleasanton or Tucson. 

Global Procurement (GP) is a key function that delivers value to Roche by leveraging market knowledge, subject matter expertise and business insights in the procurement of goods and services and the management of Roche’s third party spend. Through collaboration with our external suppliers and internal business partners, GP helps bring innovative tests and medicines to patients.

The Region America Procurement team is responsible for translating business requirements into Procurement activities and provides employees – from facilities managers, to brand teams, to research scientists – with all day-to-day procurement services. Our team represents Global Procurement to our regional stakeholders and is a key point of contact for employees to support their requirements for goods and services to sustain our business and operations. As a key link between stakeholders and the wider procurement organization, we ensure regional input and needs are considered as Global Procurement proactively develops strategies and solutions for our stakeholders’ current and future needs.

As the Sourcing Specialist supporting Indirect Procurement for Lab Instruments, Consumables, Chemicals, and/or Research Services, Region America, you are a member of the regional sourcing team.  You will be responsible for the execution of various medium to high-value lab instrument/consumable/chemical/research services related Procurement activities for research and development business prompted, and in some cases procurement driven sourcing requests within a specific region or site and for ensuring maximum possible Procurement impact and savings realization.

You are responsible for ensuring all sourcing requests are executed in line with the category buying guides and content, and in compliance with relevant policies, standards, guidelines, and operating procedures, including preferred supplier arrangements and contracts. The Sourcing Specialist works with Procurement and Business stakeholders to understand requirements and execute the relevant sourcing process by applying appropriate methodologies, tools and value levers.  To support value delivery, the role collaborates with the Category and Supplier Management teams to address high-value stakeholder requests, and escalates opportunities for above site, country or region aggregation and leverage. As part of the sourcing process the role also collaborates with legal functions in creating contracts, master agreements, work orders, change orders, budgets, payment schedules, or similar documents.

You have a deep knowledge of Diagnostics, Pharma, or Biotech related lab instruments/consumables/chemicals/research services.  The role has a strong understanding of Research and Development stakeholder functions and spend characteristics, and effectively translates business needs into sourcing requirements.  You have experience with the use of eSourcing tools and the overall sourcing process and methodology, such as documenting requirements, conducting analysis and negotiations, and communicating with stakeholders and suppliers.

By efficiently and effectively executing the operational sourcing process end-to-end, the Sourcing Specialist for Research and Development ensures that end user demand and expectations are satisfied. In addition to providing high levels of internal customer service, the role also contributes to overall savings opportunity identification and delivery.

Your responsibilities:

1. Core Accountabilities

  • Lead lab instrument/consumables/chemicals/services sourcing activities of medium to high-value and complexity.  This includes oversight of competitive bids, cost negotiation with suppliers, and risk mitigation using eSourcing tools.
  • Business partner with Research and Development functions to understand end user requirements and leverage the applicable category buying guides and sourcing knowledge to determine the best method for driving value in meeting the requirement.
  • Provide input and feedback on high value procurement opportunities to support the creation and refinement of Category Guides and Strategies
  • Deliver Category Strategy execution and lead and/or participate in Supplier Management activities in alignment with the Global Category and Supplier Management teams.

Your Qualifications:

  • Completion of university degree, with business or science related degree preferable.
  • Business level fluency in English.
  • 5+ years of procurement (preferably Indirect Procurement), business, or scientific experience, preferably in medical device/diagnostics, pharma/biotech, or life sciences industry.
  • Experience with procuring lab instruments, consumables, chemicals, and research services.
  • Experience with RFP development, proposal evaluation, and contract and budget management. 
  • Experience in supporting cost reduction and value improvement programs.
  • Strong communication and inter-personal skills and demonstrated understanding of translating business requirements into procurement specifications with customer service in mind.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to recognize and resolve problems. 
  • Knowledgeable in systems and processes for efficient management of contract documentation, templates and processing tools (e.g. eSourcing, eAuction).
  • Professional purchasing (e.g. CPSM, CSCP) certification is desired.
