Director of Global Procurement

Position Overview:

Partnering with the CEO, this position is accountable for developing and executing procurement strategies aligned with business needs for a multi-site purchasing organization.  Incumbent will manage existing supplier relationships, communicate regularly with senior leaders, execute joint collaborative initiatives, and participate in supplier contract negotiations.  This position will also ensure MRP implementation and maintenance, contract adherence and monitor procurement performance against established targets.


·       Lead a multi-site procurement organization focused on supply planning, existing vendor management, purchasing, procurement, and inbound logistics

·       Interface directly with senior leadership to assure company objectives are met, including quality, service, reliability, and fulfillment

·       Understand operational considerations. Identify business demand requirements and partner with leadership to support the delivery of annual value improvements and drive competitive advantage

·       Understand long range requirements of the business partners and engage in strategic planning and partnering across the organization to ensure procurement alignment

·       Develop and implement supplier management policies and practices throughout the company that ensure cost, quality and delivery expectations are met.

·       Develop and report on metrics and key performance indicators for procurement process including regular accountability reviews with the CEO

·       Financial and budget responsibility for global procurement including communicating a forecast for areas of responsibility and aligning procurement with the financial plan

·       Oversight of demand and supply planning to ensure optimized load

·       Oversight and management of purchasing

·       Oversight and management of backorder process

·       Optimize the procurement function and processes across all company sites/entities

·       Recruit, hire, & develop staff; evaluate employee performance; recommend or initiate employment status changes for team

·       Foster a cohesive and cooperative relationship between all locations

·       Work with IT to help facilitate system improvements including development, launch and maintenance of company MRP system to support forecasting, demand planning, and inventory management

·       Negotiate contracts, service level agreements, and policies with suppliers and vendors across the network

·       Approve purchase orders for product, supplies and services

·       Make or facilitate changes necessary to maintain an effective ISO compliant quality system


·       Education:

o   Bachelor’s degree required; preferably in Business, Supply Chain, Operations or Engineering

o   APICS  or other related industry certification a plus

o   Master’s degree a plus

·       Experience and Skills:

o   10 years related procurement experience; prior supply chain/operations experience within the medical industry is a plus

o   Minimum 10 years management experience

o   Solid organizational and project management skills required

o   Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

o   Solid working knowledge and proficiency in ERP/MRP systems; knowledge of Great Plains a plus

o   Experience and understanding of Lean Manufacturing

o   Approximately 30% travel required
